Cougars Push Past Marauders with 4-2 Conference Victory

SANTA CLARITA, Calif. — The College of the Canyons women's soccer team defeated Antelope Valley College in a six-goal thriller on Friday afternoon, coming away with an exciting 4-2 win.
The victory extended the Cougars' win streak to three games and the team's undefeated streak to four matches.
COC opened the scoring in the 19th minute when forward Hannah Hoskins booted her third goal of the season from a Marissa Kneisel pass to give the Cougars a 1-0 lead.
The Marauders eventually tied the game about 10 minutes later and the two teams entered halftime knotted up 1-1.
The second half eventually saw the Cougars take control of the game and the scoreboard, but not before Antelope Valley's Jacqueline Mendez scored her second goal of the game to give the Marauders a 2-1 lead in the 53rd minute.
Just seven minutes later Marissa Kneisel scored the first of her two unassisted goals to tie the game at 2-2 with 30 minutes to play. Kneisel's goals were her seventh and eighth goals on the season, respectively.
In the 64th minute, freshman Hannah Hoskins netted her fourth goal of the season on a pass from Kneisel to give the Cougars the lead at 3-2.
In the 77th minute, Kneisel scored the game's final goal for the Cougars ensuring the 4-2 victory. Kneisel leads the team in scoring with eight goals and seven assists on the season.
Head coach Justin Lundin's club is now 4-1-2 on the season and 2-0 against Western State Conference, South opponents. Canyon is currently tied for first place in the conference with L. A. Valley College.
COC's next game sends them on the road to face Santa Monica College at 3 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 6.
