Cougars Outkick Glendale in 6-0 Home Win
COC sophomore Mari Kneisel is two goals away from breaking the program’s single season scoring record.
The College of the Canyons women's soccer team just keeps winning games, and sophomore forward Mari Kneisel just keeps scoring goals.
Kneisel, already the program's all-time leader in goals (46) and points (115), is now just two scores away from breaking the program's single season scoring record of 27 goals.
On Tuesday, Kneisel was at it again with a pair of goals in leading the Cougars to a 6-0 win over Glendale College. The sophomore also registered three assists in the game, to give her 11 on the season.
Kneisel's 26 goals and 60 points this season both lead the WSC, doubling the next closest competitor in both categories. She also leads the conference in assists, shots, shots on goal, and game winning goals.
COC freshman Kailey Marquez scored a pair of goals within six minutes to close out the first period, and send the Cougars into halftime with a 3-0 advantage.
Kneisel opening the second half scoring with her second goal of the game, before giving way to freshman Monica Blackstock who score in both the 80th and 83rd minute, to make it a 6-0 final.
Canyons is now 12-1-5 overall with a record of 10-0-3 vs. WSC, South opponents.
The Cougars have not lost a match since Sept. 18, with COC having scored 61 goals in 18 games, while also posting shutouts in seven of the last 10 contests.
The win against Bakersfield also assured the first place Cougars at least a share of the WSC, South Championship —the program's fifth straight such title.
COC can clinch the title outright with a win at West L.A. College in Friday's season finale. Canyons already defeated West L.A. 10-0 earlier this season.
However, the Cougars will first host San Diego Mesa College at 3 p.m. on Thursday, in a non-conference match that was originally scheduled to take place in September, but had to be rescheduled due to weather.
