Lady Cougars Looking for Eighth Straight in 2018
COC women's soccer will begin the regular season Thursday, Aug. 30 at the annual New Balance Community College Showcase hosted by Ventura College.

College of the Canyons women's soccer will be gunning for the program's eighth straight Western State Conference (WSC) championship when the 2018 season gets underway on Thursday, Aug. 30.
Canyons is scheduled to play in a pair of preseason friendlies before heading north to compete at the annual New Balance Community College Showcase hosted by Ventura College Aug. 30-31.
COC head coach Justin Lundin and the Cougars are slated to face Cañada College in the season opener Aug. 30. The Colts will be making the trip south from Redwood City.
The following day COC squares off vs. a familiar foe in host Ventura College.
The Cougars also have a non-conference match with Santa Barbara City College on Sept. 4, before taking the pitch vs. Chaffey College in the home opener at 5 p.m. Friday, Sept. 7.
Canyons will also enter the season ranked No. 12 in the United Soccer Coaches Junior College Division III Women's National Preseason Poll.

Matches are held at the state-of-the-art COC soccer facility located on the north end of the Valencia campus, adjacent to Cougar Stadium.
Admission to all COC soccer games is free.
A Look Back: 2017 Cougar Women's Soccer
COC won its seventh consecutive conference title, the program's 11th overall, in a season that saw 12 Cougars earn all-conference honors, including WSC, East Division Player of the Year Angel Quintero. Canyons has now brought home POY honors in four straight seasons dating back to 2014.
Quintero finished the season with six goals and five assists through 19 games, good for 17 points. She was also named to both the 2017 CCCAA Southern California All-Region and All-State teams.
The Cougars had five players earn All-WSC First Team honorees with sophomore goalkeeper Jordan Burrow, freshman midfielders Alondra Solis and Crystal Sanchez, and sophomore defenders Justine Hoeft and Hailey Phipps all getting the nod.
Phipps was also named both a 2017 CCCAA Southern California All-Region and All-State Team member and a United Soccer Coaches Junior College Women's Division III All-American.
COC head coach Justin Lundin earned his sixth WSC Coach of the Year award, and fourth in a row, after leading the Cougars to an overall record of 17-2-1 and perfect 8-0 mark vs. conference opponents.
Canyons concluded its season by hosting L.A. Pierce College in the opening round of the CCCAA Southern California Regional Playoffs in a game that saw the Brahmas advance on penalty kicks.
In the spring, Phipps signed a National Letter of Intent with Lubbock Christian University, while Burrows committed to attend Ottawa University.
