Cougars Travel to AVC for 6-3 Road Win

College of the Canyons captured the third win of its inaugural season, coming in the form of a 6-3 road victory over Antelope Valley College. 

The win was the second in as many tries vs. the Marauders and moved COC into the fifth-place spot in the eight-team Western State Conference (WSC). Earlier this season the Cougars defeated AVC 9-0 to record the first match victory in program history. 

On Tuesday, Canyons scored four victories in singles competition, then won two of three doubles matches.

Marissa Wambolt, Leilani Figalan, Brienna Best and Heaven French were all victorious for COC in singles play. 

Jenny Cranert and Figalan teamed up for an 8-6 doubles victory. Wambolt and Best were 8-5 winners in double play, while the duo of Ruth Kedrowski and Genises Ordonez was narrowly defeated 8-6.

Doubles

  1. Cranert/Figalan (COC) lost to Maldonado/Vidal (AVC) — 8-6
  2. Wambolt/Best (COC) def. Beongova/Jones (AVC) — 8-5
  3. Ordonez/Ruth Kedrowski (COC) lost to Thomas/Collier (AVC) — 8-6

Canyons (3-7) will next host Santa Monica College (2-5) at 2 p.m. Thursday, March 8.
