Cougars Crowned Conference Champions With Victory Over Bakersfield
The College of the Canyons volleyball squad finished the regular season with a 3-1 victory over Bakersfield College earning the Cougars a Western State Conference, South Division Conference Championship.
SANTA CLARITA, Calif. – The College of the Canyons volleyball squad finished the regular season with a 3-1 (25-15, 25-12, 16-25, 25-23) victory over Bakersfield College earning the Cougars a Western State Conference, South Division Conference Championship. The Cougars and Renegades both entered Wednesday night with identical 10-1 records, allowing the winner of the match to take the conference title.
The volleyball program tallied its third conference title under head coach Lisa Hooper and its first since they won back-to-back titles in 1999 and 2000.
The Cougars hit .222 on the night. Freshman Serena LeDuff matched her second-best kill performance with 18 and her team-best 27 digs. Sophomore Jordan Carter dished out a match-high 36 assists, while also turning in three blocks. Freshman Lauren Underwood had four blocks and freshman Sage Hernandez added three of her own.
Canyons finished the regular season with a 20-3 record and 11-1 conference record, for a program-best winning percentage, under Hooper. The Cougars end the regular season ranked No. 18 in the state and 11th in Southern California.
COC now awaits the playoff seedings, which will be announced on Sunday, Nov. 24. Round one of the playoffs will commence on Tuesday, Nov. 26.
