No. 5 Canyons Clinches Share of WSC, South Crown with 3-0 Win at Glendale
The Cougars (20-2, 10-0) will now look to clinch the WSC, South title outright at Friday's regular season home finale.
No. 5 College of the Canyons put on a dominant performance Wednesday night, as the Cougars defeated Glendale College 3-0 (25-9, 25-12, 25-8) to clinch at least a share of the program's third straight Western State Conference (WSC), South Championship.
Canyons (20-2, 10-0) will now look to stay unbeaten in conference play and clinch the WSC, South crown outright.
COC sophomore outside hitter Brooke Garelick led the charge for head coach Lisa Hooper's squad, with a match-high 10 kills and a .833 hitting percentage.
Freshman outside hitter Emily Bible added eight kills and hit for .417. Bible also added eight digs and led the team with four aces.
Sophomore middle hitter Erica Magee contributed eight kills and committed no errors while hitting .571.
Freshman middle blocker Alexa Hesseldenz was a perfect six-for-six on the night.
Sophomore libero Chelsea Corn led the team with her 10 digs and added three aces.
Sophomore setter Katie Rutecki lead the match with 29 assists and added two aces of her own. Rutecki currently leads the state and WSC in assists per set with 11.14.
The Cougars return home for their final home match against Santa Monica College (14-9, 8-2) at 6 p.m. Friday, Nov. 13, in the Cougar Cage.
The program will also honor its sophomores during a brief pre-game 'Sophomore Night' ceremony.
