By Jesse Muñoz/COC Sports Information Director
College of the Canyons student-athletes Flora Peugnet (women's golf) and Andrew Henderson (men's basketball) have been named the COC Athletic Department's Women's & Men's Student-Athletes of the Week for the period running Nov. 13-19. Peugnet and Henderson are the 12th set of honorees for the fall 2022 semester.
Flore Peugnet / Women's Golf
Peugnet saved her best golf of the season for the last event of the year, finishing fifth overall at the two-day 2022 CCCAA Women's Golf State Championships in Morro Bay Nov. 13-14.
The freshman from Montigny-lès-Metz, France carded a seven-over score of 79 in Sunday's opening round, one of just four players to finish under 80 on the day. Peugnet followed up that effort with a round of 82 during Monday's final round for a two-day score of 161 (79/82).
As a result, Peugnet was one of six players to earn CCCAA All-State Team honors.
Peugnet's performance helped Canyons (668-331/337) to finish second in the team standings, just two strokes behind back-to-back state champions Modesto College (666-350/316).
Andrew Henderson / Men's Basketball
Henderson turned in a pair of stand-out scoring performances for the Cougars, helping Canyons to a 1-1 record over that span.
The sophomore from Chatsworth High School poured in 32 points in 21 minutes of action during the Cougars' 100-90 home win over Santa Barbara City College on Nov. 16. That result came on a 13-of-20 shooting night that included a 3-of-4 mark from behind the arc. Henderson scored 24 points in the second half, and finished the game with five rebounds, three steals and a pair of blocks on the defensive end.
Three nights later, Henderson finished with 14 points, six rebounds, two assists and two blocks in the Cougars' 84-77 loss at Chaffey College on Nov. 19.
On the season, Henderson is averaging 15 points to go with 4.3 rebounds, 1.3 steals and 1.5 blocks each night out.
