Estrella Segura and Gavin Dion Named Jersey Mike’s Student-Athletes of the Week

College of the Canyons student-athletes Estrella Segura (women's tennis) and Gavin Dion (men's track & field) have been named the Jersey Mike's COC Athletic Department's Women's & Men's Student-Athletes of the Week for the period running March 10-15. Segura and Dion are the ninth set of honorees for the 2025 winter/spring session.

Segura helped Canyons to a pair of points in the Cougars 8-1 conference road victory at Glendale College on Thursday, March 13.

In doubles play, Segura teamed with Baylee Renfro to pick up an 8-1 victory to notch the duo's third win of the season from the No. 1 doubles position.

Later, Segura, who attended Valencia High School, won her singles matchup (6-4, 6-3) to earn a point from the No. 1 position. 

The COC team victory ended a period of 10 days in which the Cougars did not compete due to a serious of cancellations brought about by inclement weather.

Gavin Dion / Men's Track & Field

Dion ran to a pair of first-place results during the annual University of Redlands Invitational held on March 14.

The Saugus High School graduate won both the 800m and 1500m events to lead the Canyons men's team.

Dion clocked a time of 4:04.13 in the 1500m to top the field of 20 runners which also included four-year student-athletes.

The freshman later ran a sub two-minute time of 1:59.32 in the 800m, to also win that event.
