College of the Canyons closed out the conference portion of its schedule with a 10-8 win over visiting Bakersfield College on Friday, as the Cougars plated six runs across the first three innings to build an insurmountable lead against the Renegades.
Canyons (18-19, 12-9) won Tuesday's series opener vs. Bakersfield (12-28, 6-15) at Cougar Field, then dropped the middle game on the road Thursday.
The Cougars came away with 16 hits in Friday's game with six players enjoying multi-hit days. Rowan Teran and DJ Kougher both had three-hit outings.
COC starter Malakai Correll (2-2) got the start and earned the win with five effective innings of work. He allowed two earned runs on four hits and walk, striking out two in the process.
Albert Prado and Josh Yosfan were also effective in relief outings, with Yosfan pitching the ninth to earn his fifth save.
Already holding a 6-2 lead, the Cougars added three more in the sixth with Andy Ambriz and Jovan Camacho turned in RBI-singles to bookend an unearned run produced on a Bakersfield in field error.
The Renegades were able to make things interesting with a five-run outburst in the seventh that got Bakersfield to within a pair at 9-7.
After the Cougars added a run on a Tafton Hensley sac-fly to put the game at 10-7, Bakersfield offered one final gasp in the form of a solo home run by Jacob Baker. From there Yosfan was able to shut the door at 10-8.
