CULVER CITY — College of the Canyons opened its three-game series against West L.A. College on the road with an 8-0 conference victory over the Wildcats.
Canyons (19-11, 10-3) consistently tacked on runs starting in the second inning when Ryan Camacho found his way to second base after a Wildcats' infield error allowed Alex Sepulveda to put one on the board.
The Wildcats (6-25, 2-11) fought back in the second with a few runners in scoring position, but COC sophomore pitcher Brooks Snyder worked to squash the momentum.
Snyder (4-4) efficiently led the Cougars through six innings with seven strikeouts, four walks and only four hits allowed before letting Josh Yosfan take over for the next two innings.
Yosfan quickly closed both innings, issuing four strikeouts, one hit and a walk then handed the ball to Xavier Stoker, who came in to serve up three straight strikeouts to close out the game.
COC sophomore Andy Ambriz finished the game with three RBIs, a double and a triple.
Canyons also saw RBIs from Jovan Camacho, Jake Schwartz, Sepulveda and two from Ryan Camacho.
This combination brought about the 8-0 score and propelled the Cougars to a five-game conference win streak. The Cougars will enter Thursday's matchup vs. West L.A. just two games behind conference leader Glendale College with eight regular season games lefy to play.
