College of the Canyons will play in the 3C2A Southern California Regional playoffs for a third straight season, this time with a three-game series at Palomar College this weekend.
No. 23 Canyons (20-20, 11-10) will travel to face No. 2 Palomar College (30-9, 23-2) in a best-of-three series beginning Friday, May 3. First pitch is scheduled for 2 p.m.
Game 2 is scheduled for 11 a.m. Saturday, May 4. If necessary, a third game would take place at approximately 2 p.m. on Saturday.
Canyons finished the regular season tied for third in the Western State Conference (WSC), South Division standings behind conference champions L.A. Valley (34-6, 20-1) and runner-up Glendale College (25-14, 15-6). The Cougars tied with Citrus College (20-20, 11-10) in third with identical regular season records. COC lost three of its final five games down the stretch but emerged victorious in a 13-6 final score vs. West L.A. in the regular season finale.
The postseason bid is the 11th for Canyons head coach Chris Cota who logged his 500th career win with the program earlier this season. In 2023, Cota led the Cougars all the way to the Southern California Regional Finals. Canyons is competing in the postseason for the 29th time in program history.
Palomar won eight of its final nine contests including four straight to close out the regular season. The Comets won the Pacific Coast Conference (PCC) championship finishing eight games ahead of runner-up Southwestern College (23-17, 15-10). Palomar is hosting a first-round playoff series for a third straight season. In 2023, the then No. 1 seed Comets were eliminated by No. 24 East L.A. College in the opening round.
