With a 19-13 halftime lead build on strong running, sharp passing and solid defense, the Cougars took the field in the second half and watched as the Allan Hancock Bulldogs scored 30 unanswered points at will, all but eliminating any hope for a trip to a bowl game for College of the Canyons.

The College of the Canyons football team finally put together a solid performance on both sides of the ball Saturday night, which led to five different Cougars posting points on the board, in a 43-14 win over the Citrus College Owls.

Key mistakes in the fourth quarter by the Cougars, (1-2, 1-4), led to a breakdown in the Cougar defense and allowed the Bakersfield Renegades (3-0, 4-1) to earn the win, 33-22.

Hoping to gain momentum from last week’s shutout of Ventura College, the College of the Canyons football team was held scoreless in the fourth quarter, after leading for the previous three, against Moorpark College in a 35-28 loss for the Cougars.

The College of the Canyons Cougars ended a two-game losing streak by shutting out visiting Ventura College Pirates, 54-0 in the first conference game of the season.

College of the Canyons suffered another loss this time at the hands of defending state champions Grossmont College Griffins, 25-3, on Saturday afternoon, making the 2006 season the worst start to Cougar football since the program was reinstated in 1998.

For the first time since the football program was reinstated in 1998, the Cougars lost their home opener and snapped a 38-game regular season winning streak with a 29-24 loss to the visiting Chaffey College Panthers.
