Three Cougars Donned JC Grid Wire All-Americans
The College of the Canyons football team continue to gather post-season awards as running back Fred Winborn, wide receiver Hayo Carpenter and defensive lineman Jason Pierre-Paul were named JC Grid Wire All-Americans.
SANTA CLARITA, Calif. – The College of the Canyons football team continue to gather post-season awards as running back Fred Winborn, wide receiver Hayo Carpenter and defensive lineman Jason Pierre-Paul were named JC Grid Wire All-Americans.
Winborn, a Grant High School graduate, led the state in rushing yards per carry (8.9), was third in rushing yards per game (128.2), second in touchdowns scored (18) and was second in total offense yards per play (8.9) during the regular season. In the playoffs, the freshman added 247 yards on the ground and five touchdowns and 92 yards receiving and one score.
Carpenter was eighth in the state in receptions per game (6.5), 12th in receptions per catch (18.3) and 16th in all- purpose yards per game (142.0). During the two-game playoffs, the Burroughs Ridgecrest alum added 228 receiving yards and three touchdowns to his freshman resume.
Pierre-Paul tallied 49 tackles and 14 sacks in just his first season as a Cougar. He led the WSC in sacks and was fourth in the state during the regular season. The Deerfield, Fla., native also recorded one interception for a 20-yard touchdown return.
The three All-Americans were also unanimous All-Western State Conference first team picks, and Winborn was named Co-Player of the Year for the conference.
