Former Cougar safety Troy Nolan was drafted in the seventh round of the 2009 National Football League Draft on Sunday afternoon by the Houston Texans, while former Cougar wide receiver Shane Morales signed a rookie free agent contract with the Arizona Cardinals.

The 2008 College of the Canyons football team continued its tradition of post-season success off the field as 11 players signed with four-year universities on National Signing Day, including eight players with Division I schools.

Five Cougars from the 2008 National Division, Northern Conference Champion College of the Canyons football team were honored with 2008 All-America awards, and seven were named All-State, including All-State Defensive Player of the Year for defensive lineman Marquis Jackson.

The College of the Canyons football team goal of playing in the state championship game was cut short on Saturday evening as the visiting Mt. SAC Mounties scored two touchdowns in the final 10 seconds of the Southern California Championship game to win, 51-44, and move on to the state title game.

College of the Canyons wide receiver and Conference Offensive Player of the Year Hayo Carpenter pulled down 10 passes for 236 yards and two touchdowns to help lead the No. 1 Cougars over visiting No. 4 El Camino 36-27 on Saturday night in the Southern California Semifinals.

The No. 1 College of the Canyons scored 41 points in the first game of the 2008 playoffs to win , 41-17 over No. 8 Antelope Valley College to win the Western State Conference Bowl.

College of the Canyons football nabbed 15 all-conference awards following the Cougar’s perfect 10-0 season as well as a sweep of the conference’s top-three honors in Coach of the Year for Garett Tujague, Offensive Player of the Year for sophomore wide receiver Hayo Carpenter and Defensive Player of the Year for freshman defensive lineman Marquis Jackson, for a total of 18 awards for the 2008 season.

Even though College of the Canyons had clinched the Northern Conference championship with a win over Pasadena City College the weekend before, the Cougars headed into the game against archrival Bakersfield College determined not to take it easy.

With a record-breaking performance by running back Fred Winborn and an impressive defensive stand in overtime, College of the Canyons defeated Pasadena City College 42-41 on Saturday night — giving the college its first conference title since 2005 and first ever Northern Division, National Conference Championship.

The College of the Canyons football team put up 52 points in route to their eighth consecutive win on Saturday night as they remained perfect in conference play with a 52-29 win over Ventura College.

The College of the Canyons football team broke a 14-14 halftime tie with the Glendale College Vaqueros on Saturday night as quarterback Brad McClellan threw for three touchdowns and carried in another to lift COC past Glendale, 42-23.

Sophomores Hayo Carpenter and Fred Winborn combined to tie and break four school records on Saturday night against Moorpark College in rout to their second conference win, 48-3.

College of the Canyons sophomore quarterback Joey Frias threw for two touchdowns and ran in another on Saturday night to help lift the Cougars past Allan Hancock College, 42-21.

Freshman defensive back Marlon Douglas recovered a Fullerton College fumble at the College of the Canyons 15-yard line to prevent the Hornets from tying the game with less than two minutes to go for the Cougars’ closest win of the season, 34-28, on Saturday night.

Quarterback Joey Frias threw for five touchdowns and ran for another on Saturday night as the College of the Canyons handled L.A. Valley College 66-7 in the Cougar’s homecoming game.

In College of the Canyons first home game of the season, sophomore Fred Winborn scored two touchdowns on the ground, caught one in the air, and passed one to teammate Hayo Carpenter to help the Cougars rout visiting Santa Barbara City College 56-6 Saturday night.
