No. 10 Canyons Collides with No. 6 Cerritos in 44-15 Road Loss

CERRITOS, Calif. — The No. 10 College of the Canyons football team concluded its 2015 season with a third straight loss, this time falling to host No. 6 Cerritos College 44-15.

After opening the season at 5-0, the Cougars went on to lose four of their final five games down the stretch. As a result, Canyons will not participate in the 2015 Southern California Football Association (SCFA) postseason

Head coach Ted Iacenda's club surrendered a season-worst 659 yards of total offense to the Falcons on Saturday. By comparison, the Cougars could only muster 281 yards of total offense in the contest.

After trailing 7-0 early Canyons got on the board in the second quarter when running back Jalen Logan connected with quarterback Devon Dunn on a 19-yard touchdown pass to cap a 78-yard scoring drive. COC converted a two-point conversion attempt thanks to a Kenny Torrence run to give Canyons an 8-7 advantage.

Cerritos would regain the lead at 14-8 on its next possession, however.

But a 46-yard pitch and catch from Dunn to wide receiver Nicholas Jones allowed Canyons to regain the lead and take a 15-14 lead into halftime.

Jones finished the game with seven receptions and 106 receiving yards to go along with his touchdown.

Jones concludes the 2015 campaign with 68 receptions, 1,240 yards receiving yards and six touchdowns to lead the Cougars in all three categories.

Meanwhile, Dunn finished the season with 2,425 yards passing while throwing 14 touchdown passes and nine interceptions with a completion percentage of 53.4. Dunn was also a threat on the rushing attack, and was the team's second leading rusher with 318 yards rushing and six rushing touchdowns.

On Saturday, the Cougars could ultimately not keep up with the Falcons in the second half, as Cerritos throttled the Cougars by scoring 30 unanswered points on its way to a 44-14 victory and the SCFA National Division, Northern League crown. 

The Cougars wrapped up their season with a 6-4 overall record and a 3-3 record against Northern League opponents.
