Winners of four straight games, College of the Canyons made a big jump in both of the statewide Top-25 polls this week.
Canyons (4-2, 3-0) is the No. 12 ranked team in the state according to the JC Athletic Bureau Head Coaches poll released Oct. 17.
The Cougars also share the No. 11 spot with conference counterparts El Camino College (4-2, 2-1) and Ventura College (4-2, 3-0) in the most recent California Community College Sports Information Association (CCCSIA) poll.
COC posted a convincing 31-21 victory over then No. 9 ranked El Camino during a week seven Thursday night road contest. Canyons entered the game ranked No. 17 in both polls.
The Cougars had previously defeated Palomar College, Santa Barbara City College and Antelope Valley College to close out the first half of the season.
The No. 11/12 position is the highest thus far for Canyons, which started the season ranked No. 15 and No. 17, respectively, in the two polls.
City College of San Francisco (6-0) took over the top spot in both polls his week just ahead of Riverside City College (6-0). San Antonio (6-0), Fullerton (6-0), Butte (5-1), College of San Mateo (5-1), American River College (5-1), Golden West (5-1) and Reedley College (5-1).
Ventura is the No. 10 team in the coaches poll, with the CCCSIA rankings placing Sierra College (4-1) in the No. 10 spot.
COC's week eight opponent Allan Hancock College (3-3, 2-1) is tied with San Diego Mesa (3-3) at No. 22 in the coaches poll, while checking in at No. 24 with the sports information directors.
