RANCHO CUCAMONGA, Calif. — The College of the Canyons men's soccer team opened its 2015 season with a tough 2-1 road loss to Chaffey College.
The Cougars got off to a quick start taking the lead in the 15th minute, but were eventually by the Panthers.
COC sophomore forward Oscar Sanchez netted the first goal of the season for the Cougars, giving his team a 1-0 lead. Sophomore Johnathan Trujillo assisted on the scoring play.
Canyons head coach Philip Marcellin's club would take its 1-0 lead into halftime, but couldn't hang on.
Chaffey scored two goals within five minutes just moments after the start of the second half to give the Panthers a 2-1 lead they wouldn't relinquish.
The Cougars scored only one goal, but made Chaffey goalkeeper Jesus Meza earn it. COC had six shots on goal forcing Meza to make five saves.
Canyons (0-1-0) will hit the road to take on Santa Rosa College at 4 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 4.
