SANTA ROSA, Calif. — The College of the Canyons men's soccer team took a 1-0 lead into the final moments against Santa Rosa College, but could not hold off one final attack and allowed a game-tying goal to end the match in a 1-1 draw.
By that point in the game the Cougars had been playing with 10 men after sophomore forward Andy Ruiz was issued a red card in the 66th minute.
Moments earlier, the 61st minute Ruiz assisted on COC's first goal of the game by midfielder Brian Cano. It was Cano's first goal of the season.
Head coach Phil Marcellin's squad was outshot by a 5-2 margin in the match.
Canyons (0-1-1) will next square off against West Hills College Lemoore at 4 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 5.
The match will be the Cougars' third of five consecutive road games to start the season.
