SANTA MONICA, Calif. — The College of the Canyons men's soccer team continued its tough opening string of matches to begin the 2015 season with a 1-0 loss to Santa Monica College in the Western State Conference (WSC) opener.
Santa Monica's Claodio Maaloof scored the game winner in the 77th minute to clinch the game for the Corsairs.
The Cougars were outshot by Santa Monica eight to five over the 90-minute match and were shutout for the second game in a row.
COC goalkeeper Cristian Arrianga faced four shots and made three saves.
COC midfielder Zachery Nua was given a yellow card in the 82nd minute.
The loss drops COC's record to 0-3-1 on the season, with the Cougars having lost two consecutive games.
COC head coach Phil Marcelin will next take his squad to face Glendale College at 7 p.m. Friday, Sept. 18.
