Playing in its second Western State Conference (WSC), South Division match of the season, College of the Canyons dueled the visiting Glendale College to a 1-1 draw on Friday night.
The first half was scoreless as both teams took turns defending attempts at taking the lead. It wasn't until the 53rd minute when the first points were recorded.
Glendale (2-6-5, 0-1-1) saw freshman Bryan Cea score first, finding the back of the net with an unassisted goal for the Vaqueros.
COC's goalkeeper Chase Moynihan (1-1-1) kept Canyons in the game, recording five saves and allowing the lone goal. Moynihan started and ended in net.
Canyons (5-4-5, 1-0-1) trailed but earned several opportunities, and eventually their efforts paid off.
On an assist from Cesar Perez, COC freshman Josh Swanson fought to put the ball past Glendale's goalkeeper Hrak Tahmasian in the 80th minute. Swanson has now recorded six goals on the season.
With only 10 minutes to go, Canyons lobbied for another opportunity, but the attempt was saved by Tahmasian, thus bringing the match to an end at a 1-1 draw.
The Cougars will be on the road for their next conference match at 4 p.m. Friday, Oct. 22 at Antelope Valley College.
