Canyons Has Seven Players Earn All-WSC Honors

College of the Canyons had seven players earn All-Western State Conference (WSC), South Division honors after a season in which the Cougars placed third in the conference standings.
Canyons is represented on the All-WSC South Division First-Team by sophomores Francisco Ornelas and Bryan Velasquez, along with freshman Drew Leskin.
Ornelas, who split time between forward and midfielder, finished the 2021 campaign with three goals and an assist, logging starts in 18 of the 19 games he played. He was second on the team with 23 shots.
Leskin played all over the field for COC head coach Phil Marcellin, making at impact at defender, midfielder and forward. He was one of three players to appear in all 21 games for COC.
Velasquez was also a consistent defensive starter for Canyons with 15 starts across 17 games to help form the Cougars' back line.
Sophomore Darian Cerin and freshman Josh Swanson were honored as All-WSC Second-Team selections.
Cerin recorded 19 starts in 20 games and was a physical leader of COC's defensive effort. He also recorded two assists on the season.
Swanson led the Cougars and finished third in the conference with seven goals. He added an assist to bring his season point total to 15, good for fourth in the conference. A starter in 16 games, Swanson led the team with 28 shots, 18 on goal, with two of his scores going down as game winners.
Sophomore Dylan Sullivan and freshman Roger Sandino were both All-WSC Honorable Mention selections for Canyons.
Sullivan recorded a goal and two assists across action in 19 games. Sandino was a starter in seven matches with an assist from his defensive position.
Canyons (6-7-8, 2-3-3) finished third in the WSC, South behind conference champion Bakersfield College (12-6-4, 7-0-1) and runner-up Antelope Valley College (11-4-5, 4-1-3).
