MONTEREY — No. 18 College of the Canyons picked up a 4-1 road victory over Monterey Peninsula College on Thursday, the first of a wo-game road trip North for the Cougars.
Canyons (5-2) bounced back after having its recent four-game win streak ended earlier in the week by visiting Fresno City College.
The Cougars dominated most of the game outshooting the Lobos 15-0 and putting four balls past Monterey goalkeeper Joseph Ochoa.
Canyons got busy early with the first goal coming in the sixth minute of the match when sophomore Julian De La O found the back of the net with an assist from Jacob Davila. The offensive pair then did it again eight minutes later to put the Cougars up 2-0.
Monterey (0-3-3) found a little relief when the ball made its way over the line and passed Canyons goalkeeper Adam Soria
COC held a 2-1 advantage at the break but continued to pepper the net, keeping Ochoa busy.
Their persistence paid off in the 79th minute with an unassisted goal from freshman Frank Alvarez, his third of the season.
Four minutes later, freshman Azael Jovel put his first goal of the season away and solidified the 4-1 victory over the Lobos.
Sorio (3-2) backed the Cougars for the full 90 minutes allowing the one goal and recording one save.
The Cougars continue their road trip on Friday, Sept. 15 against Santa Rosa College with a start time of 4 p.m.
