College of the Canyons received a pair of goals from Andrew Montes in fighting for a 2-2 draw vs. visiting Glendale College on Tuesday night.
Canyons (6-9-2, 0-3-2) went down by two goals within the first nine minutes.
Glendale (5-9-3, 0-3-2) managed to find the ball off a free kick, after a touch form COC goalkeeper Adam Soria, to tap it in for the 1-0 lead in the fifth minute. Four minutes later the Cougars found themselves down by two scores.
Despite the two-goal deficit the Cougars continued to press forward, and it finally paid off when Montes came alive. The freshman worked through several Vaqueros to hammer the ball past Glendale goalkeeper Tigran Malumyan in the 31st minute of the match.
Halftime came with the Vaqueros still leading at 2-1, but the Cougars' energy persisted into the next 45 minutes.
COC continued to put pressure on the Vaqueros' defense and once again was rewarded.
In the 58th minute, Montes found the back of the net once more, making it his third of the season and evening the score at 2-2. He was assisted by freshman Frank Alavarez.
Soria (4-8-2) kept the Cougars alive with a couple of critical saves throughout the match and though Canyons had a few more opportunities, the final whistle blew at a 2-2 result.
COC continues conference play on the road vs. Bakersfield College on Friday, Oct. 27 with kickoff at 4 p.m.
The Cougars then return home for a 6 p.m. match Tuesday, Oct. 31 vs. Citrus College.
