College of the Canyons earned its first conference victory Tuesday night, downing visiting Citrus College with a 1-0 victory.

In what seemed to be a relatively even match, the Cougars capitalized on a late goal had by Franzoa Hernandez in the 77th minute. It was the freshman's first score of the season and was assisted by Andrew Montes

The Cougars (7-10-2, 1-4-2) closed out the game working for nine shots with two corner kicks while the Owls had 10 shots and three corner kicks.

Sophomore Adam Soria (5-9-2) led Canyons from the net for the last time at home and was credited with four saves and the win.

The Owls (9-6-3, 4-3) had tested Soria prior to Canyons' go-ahead goal, but were shut down the rest of the match, leaving the 1-0 result.

Prior to the match, COC honored its sophomores with a brief pre-game ceremony thanking Diego Arreola, Alejandro Chavez, Jacob Davila, Julian De La O, RJ Haring, Anthony Landeros, Jacob Reyes-Silva and Soria for their dedication to the COC men's soccer program.

The Cougars will play their final three matches on the road starting with a trip to Antelope Valley College on Friday, Nov. 3. Kick-off is scheduled for 7 p.m.

COC then travels to L.A. Pierce College and Glendale College the following week.
