College of the Canyons earned its second win of the season in a 2-0 result over Victor Valley College on its home pitch Friday night
The two sides played a spirited, but scoreless, opening half before Canyons (2-4-2) was finally able to break through in the 49th minute on a scoring touch by Vegas Roberts, his first of the year. Diego Briseno was credited with an assist on the play that put the Cougars in control at 1-0.
Briseno had a major impact on the match with three shots on the attack, before doubling the COC advantage at 2-0 in the 59th minute. He was assisted by Christian Lanzas-Castillo on the play.
Canyons outshot Victor Valley (2-5-1) by an 18-7 margin, with six of COC's attempts landing on goal. The Cougars also earned four corner kicks, with three coming in the first 45 minutes.
COC goalkeeper Hunter Maiden (1-2-1) was credited with the victory, his first of the year, after starting the second half for the Cougars. He recorded a pair of saves in the process.
