Cougars Dominate Saddleback In Second Game of Playoffs
The No. 5 College of the Canyons softball team held No. 12 Saddleback College to one hit and scoreless on Sunday afternoon, clobbering the Gauchos 12-0 in a five inning, mercy rule game in the second matchup of the best-of-three series.
SANTA CLARITA, Calif. - The No. 5 College of the Canyons softball team held No. 12 Saddleback College to one hit and scoreless on Sunday afternoon, clobbering the Gauchos 12-0 in a five inning, mercy rule game in the second matchup of the best-of-three series.
In a complete turn of events from yesterday's game against Saddleback, Canyons was the team with the bats. The Cougars notched 13 hits and held the Gauchos to just one hit.
The Cougars opened the game with a big first inning that was jump started by Savannah Gutierrez who hit a RBI double to left center. Canyons added five more runs to the scoreboard, indcluding two that were scored on Gaucho fielding errors.
Sophomore Kimmie Lockhart earned the win, going five innings and striking out four. She also let the team in batting, going 3-of-3 with two RBIs.
Left fielder Ashley Sandoval-Colon went 2-for-4 with a triple and RBI for the Cougars and third baesman Alyssa Hernandez went 2-for-4 with one RBI.
Bakersfield College will play host to this year's softball state championships, being held May 17-19.
