Cougars Split Over Weekend
The Cougars split two games with Moorpark and Palomar College on Saturday afternoon.
SANTA CLARITA, CA. - COC softball won its fourth straight game with a 2-1 conference victory over Moorpark College on Saturday afternoon.
Pitcher Savannah Gutierrez pitched a complete game, as she gave up no earned runs and struck out seven. Andrea Brackpool hit a two-run double in the fourth inning to give the Cougars a 2-1 lead and the scoreboard didn't change for the rest of the game. First baseman Kimmie Lockhart and shortstop Nikki Haslock combined for three hits and one run.
COC then had their four game winning streak snapped in the second game of the doubleheader on Saturday, as they were defeated by Palomar College 14-6. Lockhart gave up ten earned runs over six innings of work and was recorded with the loss. The Cougars were trailing 7-6 heading into the top of the sixth inning, but Palomar scored seven runs in the top of the sixth to break open the game. Five Cougars recorded at least two hits, while Karlee Bickford tallied three hits. Infielder Ashley Sandoval-Colon hit a two-run homer and Haslock had two hits, a run scored and an RBI.
The Cougars will host Santa Monica College on Tuesday, March 19 for a 2:30 p.m. game.
