Cypress Slips Past Canyons In Final Innings
The College of the Canyons softball team gave up three runs in the bottom of the seventh inning to lose a 5-3 lead and the game to Cypress College, 6-5, on the road.
CYPRESS, Calif. – The College of the Canyons softball team gave up three runs in the bottom of the seventh inning to lose a 5-3 lead and the game to Cypress College, 6-5, on the road. With the loss, Canyons dropped to 0-2, while Cypress improved to 3-0 on the season.
Cypress College turned in three runs on three hits in the bottom of the seventh inning, including a RBI double from the Charger's Khailey Campos that brought in the game-winning run.
Morgan Simmons suffered the loss after she allowed six runs in 6.1 innings. She walked seven and had four strikeouts.
Sophomore Adriana Correa was 3-of-4 with a RBI, to lead the offensive effort. Freshman Kori Cochran went 2-of-3 with two RBIs, while sophomore Ashley Sandoval-Colon and Precious Medina rounded out the hitting with two hits apiece.
The Cougars will return to action on Friday, Feb. 14, as they host Saddleback College at 10 a.m. and Santa Barbara City College at 2 p.m.
