Softball Uses Fifth Inning To Beat Glendale
SANTA CLARITA, Calif. – The College of the Canyons softball team exploded for seven runs in the bottom of the fifth inning for a come from behind victory, 10-6, on Tuesday afternoon against Glendale College at Whitten Field.
Down 4-3 to visiting Glendale after 4.5 innings, the Vaqueros committed four errors, allowing the Cougars to add runs on the scoreboard.
The inning started off with an error that allowed Venise Elisara to get on first, followed by a . Kaitlyn Shreves base hit. Nicole Maliniemi smashed a single to first moving all the runners, but a throwing error by the Vaqueros allowed Elisara to cross the plate. Ashley Sandoval-Colon followed with a two RBI triple to center and another error by the Vaqueros brought Sandoval-Colon in to score.
With one out, the Cougars continued to create offense. Adrianna Correa drove in a pair with a double to left center to make it 6-4. Shreves tacked on another with a sacrifice fly.
Glendale tried a comeback in the top of the seventh, scoring two more runs, but Canyons defense quickly shut down the short run.
Maliniemi, Correa and Sandoval-Colon collected three hits apiece and five different Cougars notched the team's eight RBIs.
Milana Casillas (1-2) earned the win, allowing four earned runs on six hits.
