The College of the Canyons softball team leads the Western State Conference with a stellar .376 batting average and returner Ashley Sandoval-Colon is one of the players who has helped the Cougars hit so well. The outfielder is hitting .477, which ranks her as the No. 5 hitter in the conference, while also leading the team in batting average. The sophomore has already notched 42 hits, eight doubles, five triples, five home runs and 27 RBIs in the 26-game season. Learn more about COC's top batter and how superstitious she really is.
On how long she has been playing softball…
I started playing when I was 3 years-old.
On how has softball impacted her life…
Softball is my life. It is coming to an end. I can't imagine my life without it because it's what I've been doing my entire life.
On her favorite position to play…
Center field, but left field is fun too.
On her pre-game rituals…
I can't tell you. If I say any of my rituals out loud, I feel like nothing is going to go right for me in the game. I'm so superstitious.
On this season…
It could be better. But I'm learning more from this season than last season.
I hope to transfer and play at the next level, but if that doesn't work out then I want to transfer to a big school with a lot of school spirit.
On where she sees herself in 10 years…
I hope to have a family with kids. I am very family oriented.
On what she likes to do in her free time…
I love going to Disneyland. I have an annual pass.
On her favorite professional athlete…
I don't really have one. My favorite athlete is my dad, because he taught me everything I know.
