Canyons Wins 4-3 at Cerritos

Norwalk, Calif. — A timely home run from designated hitter Emily Smith lifted the College of the Canyons softball team to a 4-3 win over Cerritos College on Friday.
Cougars ace Kaitlyn Reed posted a complete game for her fourth win of the season, striking out three batters with three earned runs on nine hits in eight innings of work.
COC shortstop Cheyenne Steward got her team off to the right start multiple times on Friday, reaching base three times on two hits with one walk.
Steward was one of five COC starters to record multiple hits.
Cerritos grabbed an early 2-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning before COC scored runs in the third, fourth and fifth innings to take a 3-2 advantage.
An RBI single from Cerritos' Krystal Purk tied the game at 3-3 in the bottom of the fifth inning.
Then Smith blasted the game winner past the left field fence in the top of the eighth frame.
Canyons is now 4-1-1 on the season.
