Canyons Softball No. 8 in SoCal According to Latest 3CFCA Poll
Canyons (6-1-1) are winners of five straight games heading into its upcoming weekend doubleheader at Santiago Canyon College.
The College of the Canyons softball program is the No. 8 ranked team in Southern California according to the most recent California Community College Fastpitch Coaches Association (3CFCA) State and Regional poll, released Feb. 25.
COC head coach John Wissmath and the Cougars have not played at home yet this season.
Last weekend the Cougars scored a combined 21 runs in a two-game set vs. Southwestern College and Moorpark College — while not allowing a single run.
COC freshman pitcher Kaitlyn Reed leads the Cougars with a 6-1 record on the season.
Freshman shortstop Cheyenne Steward and sophomore catcher Lauren Anderson have each hit the ball well in the early going, leading a strong lineup of Cougar sluggers.
Canyons begins its Western State Conference (WSC), South schedule on Thursday, March 5, at Antelope Valley College.
COC will finally play on its home field Thursday, March 12, when the Cougars host No. 9 Citrus College.
