Canyons Downs L.A. Mission 11-4 in Doubleheader Sweep

SYLMAR, Calif. — The No. 7 state ranked College of the Canyons softball team swept a doubleheader against L.A. Mission College winning the second game 11-4 in seven innings.
Pitchers Milana Casillas and Kaitlyn Reed divvied up the innings workload to wrap up the win, and the sweep, for head coach Jon Wissmath's squad.
Casillas started the game and went four innings, scattered six hits, allowed three earned runs and struck out three Eagles hitters.
Reed entered in the fifth inning, finishing the last three innings allowing only two hits, one earned run, and struck out two hitters.
The Cougar lineup pounced on L.A. Mission starter Sofia Castro early, scoring three runs in the first inning. COC roughed up Castro for seven runs and three walks in her five innings.
The Cougars also took advantage of three L.A. Mission errors and scored four unearned runs against Eagles pitching.
COC third baseman Julianna Carlos had a big day at the plate going 3-for-4 with four RBIs. Carlos now has 15 RBIs on the season and is batting .375.
First baseman Kaitlyn Shreeves also had a big game going 1-for-2, scoring two runs, collecting two RBI and earning two walks.
The doubleheader sweep brings COC's record to 12-2-1 overall and 4-0 against Western State Conference opponents.
The Cougars will next host No. 7 Citrus College at 2:30 p.m. Thursday, March 12.
