Canyons Takes Game 1 of Doubleheader vs. Glendale
Cougars Score 10 runs on nine hits including a home run from Emily Smith.
The College of the Canyons softball team scored a run in each of its five innings of play to defeat Glendale 10-1 for a critical confeence road win in the first game of an afternoon doubleheader on Tuesday.
COC catcher Lauren Anderson continued her hot streak with two hits, including a triple, and three runs batted in. Teammate Emily Smith also finished with three runs batted in and a home run.
Second baseman Alija Ramirez had a strong outing, reaching base on all three of her plate appearances, including two doubles.
Picking up the win was freshman standout Ashley Russo, who improved to 4-0 after allowing just one earned run and fanning three batters. Her ERA this season is 1.91, good for a team-best among a rotation allowing just over three runs per contest.
Efficiency was the theme for COC, which scored its 10 runs on nine hits.
The Cougars have outscored conference opponents 80-39 this season, with seven players on the roster batting .300 or better.
