No. 4 Canyons Beats Cypress 3-1, Takes Two at Ventura College Spring Games

The No. 4 College of the Canyons softball team earned a hard fought 3-1 victory over Cypress College at the Ventura College Spring Games on Sunday, capping off a span in which the Cougars won four games in four days.
Earlier in the day, Canyons played to a 7-3 victory over tourney host Ventura College.
In the day's second game, COC and Cypress remained scoreless until COC third baseman Julianna Carlos slapped an RBI single that scored right fielder Jennifer Metcalf in the bottom of the fifth inning.
In the next inning it was Metcalf's turn to record the big hit, as the freshman doubled home two runs to give COC its 3-1 lead.
That was all the run support COC pitcher Ashley Russo needed, as the freshman pitched the entire seven innings while striking out three batters to improve to 8-1 on the season.
Canyons (20-4-1) is will return to Western State Conference, Blue Division play when the Cougars host Antelope Valley College for an afternoon doubleheader beginning at 1 p.m. Tuesday, March 31.
