College of the Canyons scored a combined 22 runs in its home doubleheader vs. Pasadena City College but had to settle for a split after dropping the first game 9-8 in eight innings then rallying for a 13-4 victory in a five-inning finale.
The loss snapped COC's six-game win streak, but not without some late game heroics. Canyons (19-11, 8-2) trailed 6-1 through four innings but put together back-to-back big innings to tie the game at 6-6 after six.
Camryn Webb homered to put COC on the board in third inning and begin a big day for the freshman.
But the Cougars' bats went cold until Kayle Yamane's double in the fifth inning that scored Webb. Natsuki Kameyama later brought home Yamane on a squeeze play that put the game at 6-3. Kaitlyn Post them doubled home Kameyama to make it 6-4.
In the next inning Alondra Torres tied the game with a two-run single that scored Webb and Valerie Rivas to tie the game 6-6.
With the second game of the double dip still looming the two teams began the extra inning under international tie-breaker rules. The Lancers started with a runner positioned on second base, then pounded out five hits to take a 9-6 lead.
Webb and Kameyama both drove in runs in the home half of the eight but it wasn't enough with the Cougars falling 9-8
COC starter Kaitlyn Post (7-4) pitched the whole way. She allowed eight earned runs, walked four and struck out four.
Webb finished the game 4-for-4 with a home run, double, three runs scored and two RBIs. Kameyama was 3-for-5 with a run, two RBIs and stolen base. Yamane went 2-for-4 with a stolen base, two runs and an RBI.
Canyons got out to a quick start in the second game scoring six runs in the first to seize control at 6-1.
Sierra Boyajian doubled home two runs before Micayla Aguilar and Webb both hit two-run home runs in the inning.
Webb walked to bring home another run in the third inning, and later took home on a double steal involving Torres later in the sequence. Torres capped the scoring by taking advantage of a passed ball that skipped to the backstop at made it 11-2 in COC's favor.
Canyons added two more on another Webb home run, her third of the day, to add some insurance at 13-2. She finished the second game 2-for-2 with two home runs, a walk, three runs and five RBIs.
Aguilar was 3-for-3 with three runs and two RBIs, Boyajian was 2-for-2 with a pair of doubles, two runs and two RBIs.
