Lady Cougars Take Two From Cuesta
Canyons (6-2) won Gm 1 by a 4-1 final score then came back to take Gm 2 11-3 in five innings.

The Lady Cougars won their fourth straight game sweeping its second doubleheader of the week, this time vs. visiting Cuesta College at Whitten Field on Thursday. Canyons won the opener by a 4-1 final score before putting together an 11-3 five-inning victory in game two.
Canyons (6-2) previously took two from Ventura College during Tuesday's home doubleheader. Cuesta (8-6) had won three straight, and four of its last five, before making the trip south to Santa Clarita.
COC starter Jenna Rorick (3-1) got the win in game one after scattering five hits across seven innings. She allowed a single earned run, walked two and struck out one.
Freshman Ashlynn Heck put the Cougars ahead 2-0 with an RBI single in the first inning that scored Julia Fuentes and Chisato Kawahara. Later in the frame Rorick helped her own cause with an RBI triple that plated Heck.
Cuesta's lone score game in the fourth when third baseman Claire Lohayza singled in a run.
But in the fifth Rorick came through again, this time with a single that brought home Makayla Lopez, putting the game at 4-1.
Heck was 2-for-3 on the day with a triple while Rorick finished 2-for-2. Fuentes, Lopez and Brianna Vazquez each swiped bases in the contest.
Cuesta starter Kat Cline pitched six innings and took the loss.
In the afternoon affair Canyons scored a pair of runs on singles from Fuentes and Rorick to again get an early 2-0 advantage.
Camryn Webb got the scoring going again in the second inning with a triple to center field that brought Nataly Miranda in. Later, it was Kawahara's double down the right field line that scored Webb. Kawahara also scored on the play when the Cuesta right fielder made an errant throw. COC tacked one more on an infield error that brought Fuentes in and made it a 6-0 ballgame.
Webb got involved again in the third inning when her steal of second base allowed Vasquez to come in.
Cuesta finally got in the board on the fourth, put the point was moot with Canyons answering right back with three more runs in the home half of the fourth.
With Canyons leading 10-3 in the bottom of the fifth Fuentes tripled in a run to end things at 11-3. She ended the game 3-for-3 with a walk, two runs and a pair of RBIs.
Webb also had a three-hit day, with a triple, double, two steals, a run and two RBIs.
COC starter Rebecca Rodarte (3-1) got the win for her four and 1/3 innings of work. She was charged with three runs and issued two walks.
Canyons will continue its busy week with an evening doubleheader at Riverside City College on Saturday, Feb. 15. Games are scheduled for 5 and 7:30 p.m.
