Canyons Takes Two Over San Diego City & Reedley College

College of the Canyons picked up its first two wins of the season in back-to-back home outings vs. San Diego City College and Reedley College over the weekend.
Canyons (2-2) had a handful of contests that were postponed or cancelled due to inclement weather before getting back to action in a 3-1 road loss at Cypress College on Feb. 8.
On Friday afternoon, COC bounced back in a big way with a convincing 13-0 outburst vs. San Diego City in five innings for its first victory of the season.
Sophomore Lexy Angulo pitched four scoreless innings to earn her first win of the season. Allowing just one hit and issuing a walk to go with four strikeouts. Nichole Muro pitched a scoreless frame to help close things out for Canyons.
The Canyons lineup pounded out 12 hits vs. San Diego City (1-4) with four batters recording multi-hit efforts.
Leadoff batter Kate Garcia finished 2-for-3 with an inside-the-park home run, also stealing a base and scoring a pair of runs. Brooke Petretti was 2-for-3 with two runs and a stolen base while Lily Baggot made her impact with a 2-for-3 effort that included two RBIs and a run scored. Ryan Shepherd was 2-for-2 with a walk, RBI, two runs and three stolen bases. Gigi Garcia put her name in the box score with four RBIs on a 1-for-3 day.
COC scored multiple runs in the first and third innings then erupted for eight runs in the fourth. The two teams played a scoreless fifth inning before the game was called.

The Lady Cougars' winning ways continued with an 8-0 win over Reedley College on Saturday that came in six innings.
Canyons plated three runs in the third and then extended that advantage to 7-0 with a four-run fifth inning. A final run in the sixth allowed COC to end the shortened contest at 8-0.
In the circle it was Angulo (2-0) once again, this time lasting the full six innings and allowing just three hits while fanning three.
Gigi Garcia and Petretti led the offense vs. Reedley (1-2) with that duo combining to score five runs and drive in four.
Petretti finished 2-for-4 with three runs and two RBIs, while swiping a base. Gigi Garcia was 3-for-4 with a triple, two runs and two RBIs, and was also credited with a stolen base. Lily Baggot recorded three hits and drove home a run and Kate Garcia finished 1-for-2 with a walk and two runs.

Upcoming Schedule
The Lady Cougars are set to begin another busy week of action.
COC hosts Mt. San Antonio College at noon on Thursday, Feb. 15 with that game set to be live streamed to fans free of charge on the Cougars Sports Network.
Canyons is then scheduled to close out the holiday weekend with a home doubleheader vs. Cuesta College on Monday, Feb. 19. Those contests are scheduled to begin at 12 and 2:30 p.m.
The action continues with another home contest vs. Moorpark College at 1 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 20.
