College of the Canyons brought in a 4-0 Western State Conference (WSC), South Division win over Antelope Valley College at Whitten Field on Tuesday.
Previously, AVC (12-14-1, 3-3) defeated Canyons in extra inning at its home field back on March 7. However, this time around, COC freshman pitcher Nichole Muro shut the Marauders down from the home circle.
Muro (6-9) led the Cougars for the entire seven innings allowing only one hit, five walks and struck out five batters.
COC sophomore Gigi Garcia kicked off the offensive charge in the first inning with a single to center field that allowed freshmen Brooke Petretti to cross home plate.
Petretti found her way around the bases once more in the fourth inning after sophomore Lily Baggot smacked another ball to center field.
The final run came in the fifth inning on a batted ball from Petretti which was fumbled by the AVC infield allowing her to reach first base while bringing Ryan Shepherd and Nyla Beba both around to score at 4-0.
Muro continued to stay locked in for the next two innings, eventually picking up the shutout victory.
