Canyons Men's Team Wins, Women Take Third at WSC Meet No.2
The COC men's team posted 154 event points to outpace the three-team field, while the women's team narrowly missed a second place finish.
The College of the Canyons men's swim team won its first meet of the season in convincing fashion, as the Cougars posted 154 event points to outpace the three-team field at Western State Conference (WSC) Meet No. 2 hosted by Santa Barbara City College on Mar. 19.
Cuesta College (82) and Pierce College (31) finished second and third, respectively.
On the women's side, Canyons (57) placed third in the five-team field, narrowly losing a second a second place finish to Pierce (61).
Host SBCC was the first place team at a mark of 179.
Top finishers for the men's team included Griffin Scott (first place in 100y Butterfly, 2:00.56; first place in 500y freestyle, 4:57.63), Ryan Swindell (first place in the 100y freestyle, 51.68; first place in 50y freestyle, 23.12) and Seth Richards (first place in the 1,000y freestyle, 12:42.26).
Canyons also took first in the 200y medley (Melvin Martinez, Alexio Cardia, Noe Martinez and Kaikea Roe) and 400y freestyle medley (William Karren, Swindell, Naphong Aneksirikul, Scott).
For the women's team Siris Pinget (second place in 1000y freestyle, 12:02.27), Breanna Hummitzsch (third place in 100y breaststroke, 1:19.83) and Alexis Kearns (third place in 100y butterfly 1:14.11) helped lead the way.
Canyons will be back in the pool Friday, April 1, at WSC Meet No. 3 hosted by L.A. Valley College.
