Cougars Set Two School Records at 16th Annual Pasadena Invitational
The COC men's team places fifth in the field of 20, while women's team takes 14th in field of 22.
The College of the Canyons swim team returned home from the 2016 Pasadena City College Invitational in high spirits, as the men's team set a pair of new school records while placing fifth and the women's team taking 14th.
The field at the 16th Annual event included more than 480 swimmers, with 20 men's programs and 22 women's teams represented at the meet held April 8-9.
On Friday, the COC men's 200y freestyle team of William Karren, Ryan Swindell, Naphong Aneksirikul, Griffin Scott set a school record in the 200y freestyle relay. Their time of 1:28.77 was good enough to place sixth at the event.
The following day Karren, Naphong, Scott and Swindell put together a time of 1:40.51 to finish fifth and set another COC program recordin the 200y medley relay.
Individually, Scott took third place in the 100y butterfly at 51.82 and sixth in the 100y breaststroke at 1:02.69.
Melvin Martinez also placed sixth in the 200y backstroke at 2:08.97.
Sophomore Jessica Yamauchi led the women's team with a ninth place finish in the 200y backstroke (2:28.02) and a 12th place mark in the 100y backstroke (1:07.41).
Canyons will next compete at the Western State Conference Finals being held April 21-23 at Cuesta College in San Luis Obispo.
