Cougars Conclude Season at WSC Swim & Dive Championships

SAN LUIS OBISPO — College of the Canyons concluded its 2022 regular season at the three-day Western State Conference (WSC) Swim and Dive Championships hosted by Cuesta College April 21-23.
The Cougars finished with a total of 132 points to place ninth on the men's side. The women's team was 10th in the team standings with 23 event points.
Event host Cuesta College won the men's WSC title with 884 event points followed by runner-up Bakersfield College (473) and third-place Allan Hancock (447).
On the women's side it was Santa Barbara City College crowned conference champions with 664 points, followed by Bakersfield (518) and Ventura (433).
Canyons freshman Bence Endresz was the top performer for the Cougars, claiming 24 points across three events.
Endresz placed seventh overall in the 100-yard backstroke event (48.45). He later took seventh in the field of 32 in the 200-yard backstroke event (2:14.36).
COC freshman Cody Faust took ninth in the 200-yard breaststroke (2:24.30) and Martin Wise placed ninth out of 22 in the 100-yard breaststroke (1:04.35). Gabriel Flores was 13th in both the 100-yard backstroke (1:05.42) and 200-yard backstroke (2:26.47).
On the women's side, sisters Madison Zapolsky and Shae Zapolsky represented the Cougars.
Madison Zapolsky took 11th place in the 100-yard breaststroke (1:17.65) and the 100-yard freestyle event (1:03.56).
Shea Zapolsky was right behind in the 100-yard freestyle, placing 12th (1:04.50).
In relay events it was the combination of Flores, Evan Young, Cruz and Wise teaming to place seventh in the 200-yard freestyle relay (1:39.87).
In the 200-yard medley relay it was the team of Endresz, Faust, Cruz and Wise clocked at a pace of 1:49.42 to take seventh.
Likewise for the combination of Faust, Flores, Young and Endresz who ended the day seventh (3:42.12) in the 400-yard freestyle relay.
