Canyons Swim Hits the Water at WSC Preview Meet

VENTURA — College of the Canyons was back in the pool at the Larry Baratte Invite hosted by Ventura College, with the event also serving as the annual Western State Conference (WSC) Preview meet.
The Cougars saw their best results in the men's relay events with a handful of strong individual performances also included in the day's results.
In the men's 200-yard freestyle relay it was the combination of Christian Cruz, Martin Wise, Ahmed Abdelsalam and Bence Endresz swimming to a time of 1:36.4, good for fourth place.
Earlier in the day it was Cruz, Wise, Keanu Pence and Abdelsalam finishing sixth at a pace of 1:49.29 in the 200-yard medley relay.
Individually, Cruz finished sixth in 50-yard freestyle (23.78) and fifth in the 100-yard backstroke (1:01.91).
On the women's side it was Shea Zapolsky in the 100-yard backstroke (14th/1:19.46) and 200-yard IM (16th/3:01.64) with the top individual marks for Canyons. Ella Pratt finished 14th in the 500-yard freestyle at 6:44.08.
Pratt, Mia Paras, Karen Robles and Zapolsky ended the day by teaming for a 13th place time of 2:06.89 in the 200-yard freestyle relay.
Canyons finished seventh in the men's team standings. COC did not factor into the women's team results. Santa Barbara City College won the women's meet with Cuesta College taking the top spot on the men's side.

Upcoming Schedule
The Cougars will be back on the deck Friday, Feb. 17 at WSC Meet No. 1 hosted by Alllan Hancock College.
Canyons is then slated to compete at the two-day Mt. San Antonio College Invitational Feb 24-25 in Walnut.
