Canyons Swim & Dive Completes WSC Regular Season Schedule

VALLEY GLEN ‑ College of the Canyons swim & dive competed in its third Western State Conference (WSC) meet at L.A. Valley College on March 29.
The Cougars' men's team took home fourth and the women's team finished in fifth place. Event host L.A. Valley topped the field in both the men's and women's competitions.
COC sophomore Diego Rozbruch turned in a pair of first place results in the 50- and 100-yard freestyle events, finishing in a blistering time of 22.91 and 50.33 seconds, respectively, and earning a total of 18 event points for the Cougars.
Fellow sophomore Keanu Pence put up a commanding performance in the 200-yard butterfly, placing second with a time of 2:22.66.
Freshman Max Brown also jumped into the action with 10 points, placing fourth in both the 200-yard backstroke (2:21.37) and 200-yard Individual Medley (2:26.53) events. Both times represented personal bests.
Nicholas Jeffries powered through some longer events, finishing ninth in the 1,650-yard freestyle event (24:49.71) and seventh in the 200-yard butterfly (3:35.43).
The final notable performance from the men's team was by Declan Sheridan, who finished ninth in the 200-yard IM with a time of 2:46.56.
On the women's side. freshman Nicole Lerma had an outstanding performance in the dive events, placing second in the 3m category and third in the 1m, earning 13 event points in the process.
COC sophomore Mia Paras also had a fantastic day with an eighth-place finish in the 100-yard freestyle at a time of 1:12.61. She also finished 10th in the 50-yard freestyle at 31.60.
Canyons will compete next at the Pasadena Swimming Invitation held at Pasadena City College April 5-6.
