Sebastian Villalobos Wins Pair of Events for Cougars at WSC No. 1

SAN LUIS OBISPO — College of the Canyons has a trio of swimmers with strong performances at the opening Western State Conference (WSC) meet hosted by Cuesta College on Friday.
COC sophomore Sebastian Villalobos starred for the Cougars with a pair of first places times. Villalobos first clocked a time of 1:03.06 in the 100-yard breaststroke. Later, he was second in the 100-yard freestyle at 53.52 and wrapped his day with a pace of 2:13.46 to win the 200-yard IM. That resulted in 25 meet points from the Valencia High School grad, which led all swimmers.
Diego Rozbruch posted a trio of top-10 swims on the day including a third-place mark in the 50-yard freestyle (23.16). The sophomore later finished fourth in the 100-yard butterfly (58.32) and 10th in the 100-yard backstroke (1:12.35).
Daniel Cardenas was the only other Cougar to compete on the day. He placed 10th in the 100-yard freestyle (1:12.59), 11th in the 200-yard freestyle (2:40.15) and 14th in the 50-yard freestyle (32.09).
COC finished the event fourth in the team standings. Event host Cuesta College won the meet followed by Bakersfield College and Allan Hancock College in the top three spots.
Canyons will next compete at the two-day Mt. San Antonio College Invitational beginning Friday, Feb. 28.
