OXNARD, Calif. – College of the Canyons fell behind early in the opening minutes of the first half, but played typical fast break Cougar basketball to end any ideas of a Condor comeback, to win, 88-65, on Tuesday night.
Canyons opened the game falling behind by 13 points as the Condors opened a 28-15 lead over COC. Oxnard and Canyons battled it out in the for about eight minutes, which include two ties, but COC finished the half to go on a 8-3 run and was up 46-40 over the Condors. The second half was all Cougars, as the team went up by 27 points twice.
Canyons shot 45 percent in the second, down from 48 percent in the first half.
Charity Smith scored a game-high 22 points, 15 of which came in the first half, and had 19 rebounds. By the end of the first, Smith already had a double-double with 15 points and 13 rebounds. Freshman Brittany Bradley tallied nine points and 12 rebounds, and Kelly O'Linn and Andrea Bobic contributed 15 and 13 points respectively.
