VENTURA, Calif. – The Cougar women's basketball team was held to 27 percent shooting from the floor as they were defeated by No. 2 Ventura College, 77-51 Saturday night.
No. 7 COC opened up a four-point lead in the first five minutes following a Charity Smith basket, 10-6. Ventura found their shot in the following minutes and hit four 3-pointers in a span of two minutes to build up 33-23 lead.
VC kept pounding away at the Cougars who didn't score for a five minutes span in the last half of the second quarter.
Going into the break, Ventura had built up a 46-33 advantage. COC wouldn't get much closer than that in the second half as the Pirates kept the pressure on and stopped any Cougar comeback.
Britney Bradley had 21 points in her final contest as a Cougar but was held with to 5-of-14 from the field. Freshman Ashley Wakefield pulled down 11 rebounds in the game and recorded 13 points.
