LOS ANGELES, Calif. - The College of the Canyon women's basketball team shot 16-of-30 from the free throw line on Saturday night in a loss to L.A. Trade Tech, 68-66, in the Southern California Regional Playoffs.
The loss also marked the end of COC's 19-game win streak that dated back to Dec. 12, 2009, when COC handled Mt. SAC.
Trade Tech built up a 16-point lead in the second half, but the Cougars cut the lead to five with about four minutes left in the game.
With a bothersome defense, Canyons made it a game in the final few minutes with key fouls and forcing turnovers. Trade Tech held its ground, going 8-of-8 from the line in the last two minutes, lifting them narrowly past COC.
Ashley Wakefield led the Cougars with 15 points, nine rebounds, three assists and three steals. Sophomore Joslynn Frazier had another double-double with 10 point and 11 rebounds and freshman Dominique Turner turned in 13 points.
COC finished the season with a 22-5 record and 12-0 Western State Conference, South Division record.
