SANTA CLARITA, Calif. - The College of the Canyons women's basketball team had its five-game winning streak snapped Saturday in a 74-64 loss to LA Valley.
Sophomore center Hope Smith had 16 points and 11 rebounds in the first half, as the Cougars went into halftime leading 36-30. LA Valley went on a 10-0 run to start the second half to give them a 40-36 lead with 17 minutes left to go. Canyons tied the game 42-42 with 16 minutes left, but was never able to take the lead from that point on.
The Cougars shot 35 percent from the field in the second half and the Monarchs shot 44 percent.
Smith finished the game with 24 points and 15 rebounds and freshman reserve Keiona Matthews scored 14 points off the bench.
COC will next travel to Citrus College on Wednesday, February 6 for a conference matchup.
