Women’s Basketball Knocks Off No. 13 Cuesta College
Keiona Mathews scored 30 points, pulled down nine rebounds and was a perfect 11-for-11 from the free throw line to lead the College of the Canyons women’s basketball team past No. 13 Cuesta College, 84-82, on Wednesday night in San Luis Obispo.

SAN LUIS OBISPO, Calif. - Keiona Mathews scored 30 points, pulled down nine rebounds and was a perfect 11-for-11 from the free throw line to lead the College of the Canyons women's basketball team past No. 13 Cuesta College, 84-82, on Wednesday night in San Luis Obispo. With the win, the Cougars improved to 8-11 and 2-2 in Western State Conference, North Division, while Cuesta drops to 18-4 overall and 3-2 in conference play.
Joining Mathews in double figures were sophomore guard Jennifer Franco and freshman forward Ashley Oliver, who added 14 and 12, respectively. Oliver grabbed a game-best and career-high, 14 rebounds, while freshman guard Nayiri Aslanian turned in a career-best 13 rebounds. Sophomore guard Shawn Kolani had nine points and a game-high 11 assists, for her fifth game of the season with double digit assists.
Canyons out-rebounded Cuesta 50-38 and hit 10 3-pointers to Cuesta's one. The Cougars shot 41.2 percent (26-68) from the field, while Cuesta was 46.4 percent (32-69) from the floor.
Canyons will return home to host the No. 1 team in the state – Ventura College – for a 3 p.m. match up in the Cougar Cage.
